Food doesn’t get much more local than this, the AeroGarden hydroponic growing system by AeroGrow lets you grow fresh fruits, vegetables, herbs and flowers on your kitchen counter in no time flat. By following the simple instructions I was able to harvest pesticide-free lettuce after about a month. Growing food at home saves on food miles and provides a constant flow of the freshest produce possible. There are a few drawbacks to this innovative machine though, find out more in our video review:

I really like the AeroGarden, it produces local food with little energy and even less effort. While the lettuce was fun to grow I’m excited to try either the cherry tomatoes or the herbs next. I’ll still be planting my outdoor vegetable garden this summer but I think the AeroGarden will become a year-round fixture in my kitchen. Here’s how we rated the AeroGarden:

I’m growing herbs in my AeroGarden and constantly get regular harvests. I have so many herbs that I’m throwing them in food that I normally wouldn’t have. Very useful gadget and fun to use. If you want more info, there’s a forum for people who have the unit at http://www.aerogardengrowers.com
