Amy’s Kitchen churns out a whole lotta great processed vegetarian food. Sure TV dinners aren’t the greenest products in the world but if you’re going to go that way (and really who doesn’t once in a while) vegetarian frozen dinners make a good eco-compromise. Amy’s Kids Meals are great for parents and kids alike. The meals I tried were healthy and balanced, not too salty and easy to prepare. With gluten free, dairy free and soy-free options to accommodate the increasing number food sensitivities in the little ones, these meals beat a happy meal any day of the week. There’s even a temporary tatoo inside and games on the back of the box. I was also glad to note the packaging inside wasn’t excessive and was made mostly of recyclable cardboard.

Overall these meals are pretty green and healthy compared to other frozen meals and would make an excellent occasional weekday dinner - just don’t make a habit of it. Here’s how I rated these tasty kids meals:

My daughter needs to be gluten-free, dairy-free, and soy-free. My options are limited. My #1 choice is chicken breast tenders that I cook up myself using brown rice flour as a breading after the egg wash. They keep in the freezer and get popped out and put in the toaster oven. With a hash brown and a veggie, it takes no time at all. I keep a box of Bell and Evans gluten-free chicken tenders in the freezer for times that I'm out of the home-made ones. My daughter loves them. I can control her sodium, preservative, and coloring additives by cooking at home. Now I just have to find a good local source of free-range chicken to make it antibiotic and hormone free too!
