Baggu bags are compact, sturdy, reusable shopping bags available in an array of fun colors. Here’s my video review:

Baggu could do a bit better by using a more environmentally friendly material, but their recycling/discount program redeems them somewhat. Overall I thought Baggu bags we strong and stylish. Here’s how I rated them:

What do you think of Baggu bags? Let us know in the comments!

Update: I’ve increased the “value” score to 2/3, the previous score seemed a bit low.

I have been using Baggu for the past couple months - and it is the best. I like the detached pouch because it is very easy to fold the Baggu back into. My favorite part is it is compact and fits discretely into my back pocket so I actually remember it- something a canvas or hemp bag would not. As for value … worth every penny - I have 6.

It’s true that the bag would be much bulkier if it were made of canvas - it would be interesting to see if the benefits of compact size leading to more frequent use outweigh those of a biodegradable material. As for value, I judged this a bit harshly because we are a site dedicated to the environment and saving money - if we looked at luxury products like on your blog I would have rated it much higher. It’s a great product at an ok price - not a great price. Given the context of a green bargain site, it’s just not the low price our users might hope for. That said, I’m going to amend the score to 2/3 because 1.5/3 does seem quite low in the light of day.

It’s funny. I just recently got my baggu bags and wrote a post about them. I’ve since used them a few times grocery shopping, and really find them easy to tote around, and great for fitting lots of groceries. I’ve washed one and it held up nicely. Although I was a little disappointed I couldn’t fit all my groceries into the 3 bags I ordered. I think I might need 2 more to hold my entire basket of goods. Thanks for the review!

Thanks for the comment. I agree that they’re not quite as big as they claim, on the website it says they hold 2-3 times a normal plastic shopping bag but I’d say it’s closer to 1.5-2, depends on where you shop I guess.

I love this idea! I’m a complete convert! They are very similar to another product Envirosax which I bought a few months ago and use all the time. They fit brilliantly into your handbag and much easier to remember than the polypropolene ones from the grocery store.

Yes we reviewed Envirosax here - thanks for the comment!

Have you tried out the Acme bags? I’ve had mine for a year and it holds up pretty good although it has a few small holes from pointy grocery tins. Folds into its own attached pouch too.
