We’ve talked about how Newman’s Own donates all it’s profits to charity before and I’ve even reviewed their soft Hermits cookies and their Oreo-clone Newman-O’s too. As we approach end of the seemingly endless box of goodies Newman’s sent us we came across these soft “cake and fruit” Fig Newman’s. Now these are obviously a Fig Newton knockoff but I think they might even go one step further. In fine print on the package Newman’s thanks Kraft Foods, makers of the original Fig Newtons. I can’t tell if this is simply because Kraft owns the trademark or if they actually manufacture the cookies for Newman’s. Not being a regular Fig Newton eater I can’t say how similar these are to the real thing - if you know please let us know in the comments.

Overall the fat-free and low-fat varieties I tried were pretty darned tasty. Unless you’re especially concerned with the fat content I’d opt for the higher fat version which still don’t have that much fat in them. Over at my favorite internet grocer Amazon.com, you can get a case of these for $3.33 a pack, which seems quite reasonable for cookies, especially organic ones. Here’s how I rated them:
