As we mentioned before, Newman’s Own Organics is a pretty cool company, with Paul Newman donating 100% of the profits to charity - to the tune of $200 million and counting. That’s all well and good, but can they make a decent imitation Oreo?

Newman-O’s are pretty yummy - and dare I say, they improve on that other black and white cookie. The certified organic ingredients include cocoa which is sustainable harvested from South American rain forests - helping to preserve them. What you won’t find on the list of ingredients are partially hydrogenated oils or trans-fats, that means I can eat more of them right? They taste great and I’m a sucker for the cornball humor on the package depicting a cookie-hoarding Paul Newman:

Ode to Newman-O’s
You might, m’lady tweak my nose.
You could, m’lord step on my toes.
But Heaven help those poor bozos, who try to filch my Newman-O’s.

I’m also a sucker for ginger, making Ginger ‘n Creme my favorite of the four flavors (the others being Original, Hint o’ Mint and Chocolate). At about four bucks a pack, they’re not that much more expensive than Oreos and you’ll certainly sleep better at night knowing you’re supporting organic agriculture and rain forest preservation rather than a cigarette company.

We were given a bunch of Newman-Os to give to people living in our homeless shelter and they hated them. I think we still have a bunch of them left.
