Preserve Plates by Recycline

Preserve Plateware touts itself as an environmentally friendly alternative to disposable plateware. It’s made from 100% recycled plastics (including yogurt cups) and is fully recyclable wherever #5 plastic is accepted (it is here in Baton Rouge). They’re also dishwasher safe (on low heat settings) and Recycline tries to include as much post-consumer waste as is possible.

The sturdy plates come in a variety of colors and have a high rim to prevent spills.  While I’d much rather eat out of one of these than a soggy paper plate it’s hard to see at first where you would use these instead of your standard ceramic reusable plates.

I suppose the benefit comes with their low cost (about $0.70/plate on Amazon), light weight, small size and industructibility.  I could see bringing these along on a picnic or using them to supplement my supply of real china when having a party.  They stash easily in cupboard for the next time you need them.

Overall I like these plates and they’ve certainly got the environmental angle covered, I’m just not sure I’d personally use them enough to justify a purchase.  Here’s how they rated:
