b000r7la3m01lzzzzzzz.jpgThere's been a lot of news lately about gender-bending chemicals leeching from popular polycarbonate bottles in our drinking water. Sigg makes enamel-coated aluminum bottles which are strong, light, durable and stylish. Check out our latest video review for the full scoop:

I really liked the Sigg bottles, they're definitely eco-friendly and I love the huge array of great designs. Here's how I rated them:

Are you still using a polycarbonate bottle or have you made the switch to something new? Let us know in the comments!

I believe that no product is absolutely perfect, but as water bottles go SIGG are definitely of high confidence value.

We are Eco Mountain Bottle Co. We produce a Sigg equivalent, or better we would like to think. We improved the paint by adding a second coat made the shape slightly narrower and taller to grip with smaller hands easier & fit more cup holders. Our bottles have no dent or slice in the bottom like the Sigg. They are Aluminum & lined reusable water bottle. Yes, it's made in China. Right down the road from about 90% of the Sigg products. Ever check the Sigg product box before you throw it away. Made in China very small under bottom flap. Im' gettin off that. BPA We had our bottles tested here in the US before we ever decided to even sell them. We had extensive testing at two diferent labratories for lead and BPA as well as several other toxins. NO LEAD NO BPA. The inner lining is a non toxic perfectly safe epoxy based resin that is baked on during manufacture. If you took a blow torch and melted it then hurry and mixed some water with it. Then drank it real quick. Then mabe there would be a trace of something in the water. Come on People let's be real Here. Even in defense of Lexan. We are trying to reuse bottles to save our earth from 40 billion throwaway bottles being tossed in to our streets, streams and landfills. The scare is a news story gone Wild. Yes if you put your Lexan bottle in the car window and let it heat up in an Arizona desert on a 100 degree day then drank the water, you may get a trace of BPA. They are already coming out with more studies that you would need to drink a big bowl of straight BPA every day for 30 years to affect you. Let's be sensible, reuse a safe bottle to save throwing one in the trash every time you take a drink of water. As well as using your perfectly safe tap water for free. Rinse and refill with clean tap water.

I know I went on and on !!

Caution!! SIGG bottles are also lined with BPA so don't let their fabulous marketing department fool you.

There are several different options for those that are concerned with Aluminum. I am comfortable with Sigg - research shows no leaching even after years of use. However, if you'd prefer stainless, check out Klean Kanteens - I've never noticed a metal taste from mine and I use it all the time. Also, Guyot - they are very heavy duty and are more of a Nalgene alternative. For product reviews and comparisons, check out www.H2Ox2.com.

I hope everyone realizes that aluminum is poisonous to humans. Sigg bottles are made of aluminum and the inside is lined with what??? The Sigg site does not say what the inside of their bottles are lined with, how do we know that the lining isn't leaching into the water?! I went with Klean Kateen! 100% stainless steal, NO ALUMINUM.

I agree with previous comment. Go for stainless steel! Klean Kanteen is a great choice.

First, we tossed our Nalgenes, why take the risk. But my understanding is that the amount of BPA in these plastics is so small that there is almost no chance of be effected. Also, you know those 5 gallon water jugs at our offices? They are #7 plastic as well, most of them anyway. No one is rushing to oust those. If it is such an emergency shouldn't there be a mandate and a change there as well since that is affecting thousands more people. Finally, Nalgene is also working on alternatives due out this month, most through Guyot Designs. Advantage to outdoors folks with items such as ceramic pumps is that you will not have to buy a new pump to fit a different brand. That is worth $75 bucks in my case. I recommend not partaking in the frenzy, and buying up all these Sigg bottles at inflated prices. Just let the market catch up, within a few more weeks there will be plenty more to choose from.

SIGG vs Klean Kanteen - No Contest. SIGG is hiding dirty little secrets. PLease read my blog about SIGG and some compehensive information that questions the status quo.

If you are looking for safe drinking bottles that can be sold as promotional products, check out: http://www.earthimprints.com/drinkware
We normally have SIGG bottle (they have suspended sales for the moment) and also carry other brands that are tested and safe.

n.h :

You bought a knockoff. Sigg water bottles like the one pictured above are only made in Switzerland.

Anonymous 1 year 36 weeks 4 days 7 hours ago

I bought one of these bottles thinking it was a SWISS made bottle, but found out that it is made in CHINA which is known for LEAD POISONING and these bottles are metal. Needless to say I returned the bottle back right away. It is deceptive that they market these as SWISS bottles and have the SWISS flag on them, where in reality they are CHINESE made water bottles.

Klean Kantee bottles make the water taste metallic. Stick with Sigg. However they are behind production due to tremendous damand

I bought a SIGG and just love it - handy, safe, and super stylish at that. I've been stopped and asked many times where I found it - my beautiful buy for February (with FREE shipping, too!):

we've been having a lot of discussion about which water bottle is best over at our site - I love my sigg, but my co-blogger jenn isn't convinced that the coating they line the can with is sturdy enough! does anyone have any more information about it?

I got a sigg and I love it, except for that cap... but still wonderful

Anonymous 2 years 7 weeks 3 days 16 hours ago

I just bought a stainless steel water bottle that is similar in size and shape to the conventional nalgene from Guyoto products. They also make silicon spill guards and print their tags with soy based inks on recycled content paper. Strong and no chemicals.

If you want something

If you want something different check out glass. It is safe, nonreactive and the water tastes great. The website http://livinglavidaverde.net/store.aspx sells a great reusable glass water bottle.

I have been using a glass

Anonymous 38 weeks 2 days 8 hours 44 min ago

I have been using a glass water bottle for 7 months now and I never got that much mileage from my previous metal and plastic water bottles! The glass doesn't give the water a funny taste, and that is HUGELY important to me. Check it out at www.livinglavidaverde.net/store.aspx

I'd like to get a SIGG bottle myself because I bring water to campus everyday. But unfortunately, SIGG doesn't accept PayPal, and if I were to buy one in Malaysia, it would cost double of the price of one :(

Anonymous 2 years 7 weeks 6 days 19 hours ago

Aluminum has to be coated with something to prevent aluminum poisoning. Go with stainless steel, like Klean Kanteen.

Anonymous 2 years 8 weeks 14 hours 34 min ago

Why should I buy a bottle when I can reuse a glass bottle that I already have in my own home. Seems a waste of money not to mention co2s for shipping and extraneous packing material. Glass leaches nothing into the water, can be cleaned over and over and no one has to ship me anything. Oh yeah, and my wallet is a little fatter. Thanks.
