Soda Club is a machine that lets you make fizzy water in the comfort of your own home. Reduced waste and transportation makes it a pretty environmentally friendly system. What did we think of it? Watch our video review to find out:

So as you can see I wasn’t too keen on Soda Club’s flavorings but the machine itself worked very well and you could always try other brands of flavored syrup or just add a squeeze of lemon like I do. Here’s how the Soda Club Edition 1 stacked up:

Have you tried the Soda Club? How do you reduce the environmental impact of what you drink at home? Let us know in the comments!

Here’s a short response the folks at Soda-Club wanted me to pass along:

“Soda-Club uses Splenda instead of aspartame because Splenda is endorsed by Weight Watchers, American Diabetes Association and other leading organizations. There’s just too much buzz around aspartame being linked to cancer. Soda-Club aspires to be a healthier (as well as more eco-friendly and cost-efficient) than alternative store-bought sodas.”

Love our machine so much that I bought one for the office, too. I drink a LOT of water now. Thought I was hooked on the diet coke - turns out it was the fizz I love… Added bonus that it helps the environment. Since I drink 6-8 liters a day, I paid for these in the first month or two.

If you don’t like clorine, remember that Splenda is made by adding two clorine molecules to a sugar molecule.

Celestial Seasonings now has “Zingers to Go” using Stevia.

If you’d like another perspective, I just posted a review on Soda-Club on my site - http://1GreenProduct.com.

My conclusion is that if you drink lots of soda (which I don’t), the Soda-Club probably makes sense from both a financial and ecological perspective.

Is the world insane? Before anyone buys this, do they think about what they’re getting into, costwise? Since most people can’t just run to their local Wal-Mart and buy CO2 cylinders and syrup, the cost of the CO2 is atrocious considering that you must pay the exhorbitant UPS HAZMAT fee for CO2 refills. Also, keep in mind the special bottles and bottle caps, without which you’re out of business. No thanks, I’ll stick to the locally-available soft drink products in a multitude of flavors, both diet and regular, for 69 cents a 2-liter bottle. I put this gadget in the same category as a home breadmaker - You’ll use it a few times, then put it in your next garage sale for $5.00 or whatever you can get.
